Ask.

Your customers now type the question they used to ask a neighbor: who should I call for this? The answer is a short list of names. If yours is not on it, there is no second page to scroll to.

How do people find a business like mine in AI answers?

They ask me, the way they used to ask a friend. When someone asks who to call, I don't hand them ten links. I read what the web already says about each business: its listings, its reviews, and pages that answer the question plainly. Then I name the few I can back up with a source.

It reads.

It reads the same places Google ranks from, and it checks that they agree with each other. That is why one set of fixes works for Google and for AI answers: the two doors share one set of keys.

What do you actually read before you answer?

Mostly three things: the business's Google listing, its reviews and whether the owner replies, and pages that answer the question clearly. When they agree, I can trust them.

Not there.

The business is not doing anything wrong. The assistant just has nothing it can check, so it names the ones it can. To an assistant, a business with no sources it can quote is invisible.

Why would you leave my business out?

When I can't back it up: a few reviews with no replies, a half-filled listing, no page that answers the question. Then I leave a business out rather than guess.

4 of 5

Named.

Give it sources it can check and it has a reason to name you. That is the whole job of GEO, and it is the same work that helps you on Google, so none of it is wasted.

What would change your answer?

Give me something I can back up:

  • Reviews answered
  • Listing complete
  • Answer-first page

Then Gemini asks too.

Every assistant reads its own mix of sources. Gemini reads Google's index and Maps, ChatGPT and Claude run their own web searches and quote the pages they find. Below: what each one reads, and what you fix so all of them can name you.

How do people find a business like mine in AI answers?

They ask me who to call, and I answer with a few names. For a local question I can draw on Google Search and Google Maps, so what helps most is:

  • A complete Google Business Profile
  • Recent reviews, with replies
  • A page that answers the question clearly

GEO · AI assistants

Get named inside the answer

GEO (generative engine optimization) gets you named when someone asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or Perplexity instead of searching. There is no page to scroll. The assistant names a few businesses and says where it read about them.

Most of the groundwork is shared: a complete listing, real reviews with replies, and pages that answer the question. GEO adds two things: being easy to quote, and saying the same thing everywhere the AI reads.

How the choice gets made

How Google and AI choose a business.

Nobody pays to be in the map pack or in an AI answer. Both are decided by what they can find about you. Here is what they look at.

  1. 1 Relevance

    Do you clearly offer this?

Google matches the words in the search to what you say you do: your listing's categories and services, and pages that name the service and the city. If your site only says "HVAC solutions", it has to guess.

  2. 2 Distance

Are you near the person asking?

For local searches Google weighs how far you are from the searcher and the area you say you serve. You cannot move, but you can state your service area plainly so you are not left out of nearby towns.

  3. 3 Prominence

    Are you well known?

Reviews and how you reply, mentions on other sites, links and local press all count. Google's own help pages name these three: relevance, distance and prominence.

  4. 4 AI answers

Can it quote you, and do the sources agree?

An assistant reads first, then answers. It leans on sources it can quote: your site's plain answers, your listing, review sites, directories and local news. If your name, hours, phone or services disagree between them, it leaves you out rather than risk being wrong.

What NIXAR does

Five jobs, done for both doors.

The same five jobs move you on Google and in AI answers. Here is what each one is, why it matters to each, and how little you have to do.

  1. 1 of 5

    Your listing

A complete, accurate Google Business Profile and the main directories: categories, services, service area, hours, photos.

    On Google
The map pack is built from your listing. Missing categories or services mean missing searches.
    In AI answers
Assistants read the same listings. When every one says the same thing, they trust it.

What you do: Answer a short questionnaire and approve the changes.

  2. 2 of 5

    Reviews and replies

A simple habit for asking happy customers, and replies to every review written for you to approve.

    On Google
Review count, recency and replies feed prominence.
    In AI answers
Assistants quote what reviewers say about you, in their words. Replies show a real business is there.

What you do: Send one text after a good job. We draft the rest.

  3. 3 of 5

    Answer-first pages

One page per service and city that answers the real question in the first lines, then gives the details.

    On Google
A clear page for "AC repair in Frisco" can rank for exactly that search.
    In AI answers
A short, plain answer is the easiest thing for an assistant to quote and credit.

What you do: A short call so the pages sound like you. You approve each one.

  4. 4 of 5

    Structure (schema)

Code on your site that labels your name, services, area, hours and FAQs, so machines read them without guessing.

    On Google
Helps Google understand and show your details correctly.
    In AI answers
Removes guesswork for any system that reads your pages.

What you do: Nothing. It lives in the code.

  5. 5 of 5

    Mentions

Local citations and places the AI already trusts: directories, associations, local news and partners.

    On Google
Mentions and links from real local sites add to prominence.
    In AI answers
More agreeing sources means more confidence to name you.

What you do: Tell us the groups and partners you are already part of.

The process

It starts with a $150 audit.

  1. The $150 audit

Where you show up today on Google and in AI answers, for the questions your customers really ask, and what is missing.

  2. The fix list

Every gap, in order of impact, with what it takes to fix each one.

  3. The work

Listing, the reviews habit, answer-first pages, schema and mentions. You approve anything public.

  4. Check again

We ask the same questions of the same assistants and run the same searches, so you see what changed.

No one controls when Google or an AI tool updates what it shows, so we do not promise rankings or dates. You get a record you can check.

Proof, the real kind
